this kind of thing has worked for me before, actually
Leaving this here so that hopefully, through the power of the Internet and Google and Web 2.0 and god knows what else, I can finally find an answer to this thing that's been bugging me for years:
I played a text adventure game on the Apple IIc (Apple //c, Apple ][c) years and years ago that my father probably got off the bbs at work or something. It may or may not have been on the same disk as the text adventure "Planet of the Robots", a text adventure which I was actually able to complete at age 10 or so.
Half-remembered details:
- You started in an airplane
- Upon landing at the airport, you could take a cab to several places: a house I couldn't figure out how to get into without being shot, a desert with a cave system I'd get stuck in, and a few other places I can't remember
- at one point in the game, a character says to you "if you ever need a lift, just say up up and away" but I couldn't figure out anything to do with that
- you could leave the creator a note on the Applesiders board for hints but we didn't have any kind of bbs access at home
1. What was the NAME of this text adventure?
2. how the heck could I actually beat it because I never figured it out

what happened during the Harvard layoffs
I had the remaining three years of my five year project reduced to one year. Not sure if I'll get any kind of severance package after that.
Ryan was laid off and fortunately got a very good severance package.
Don't feel much like talking about it now. We're hanging in there.

At least I'm not the only one who thinks the mail delivery in Somerville is awful
Fun story: when we first moved in here, five years ago, our mail carrier wrote us a note telling us to put our names on the mailbox. So we did, and the next day, it was stuffed with a bunch of mail for the former tenants (whose names WEREN'T on the mailbox). I wonder how much mail we just straight up haven't gotten over the years?

stuff I've cooked lately
(taking a page from Laura's book)
-Coq au Vin (or, rather, Quorn au Vin). Didn't bother marinating the quorn fillets or pre-cooking the "bacon". DELICIOUS and also so dang rich.
-Eggplant and chicken (quorn) stir-fry. I also put asparagus in it. It didn't need the asparagus. On the side: homemade turnip tsukemono.
-Chickpeas, kale, and tomatoes with preserved lemons
-Spinach and tofu with peanut sauce over rice: super easy and doesn't require you to stand over a hot stove. Mix 1 can of coconut milk, 1/2 cup of peanut butter, 1 tbs of soy sauce, 2 tsp of lemon juice, and a couple of squirts of hot sauce. Heat it until it bubbles, then turn the heat off and let it sit. Lightly steam the spinach (or broccoli, if you like), and just cube the tofu and don't bother to cook it. Put it all in a bowl on top of rice.
-Vegetarian feijoada, which didn't call for kale but I PUT KALE IN ANYWAY and it was good
-This carrot soup, only I used store-bought pesto and didn't bother adding the two extra cups of water, because it's delicious when it's nice and thick
-Asparagus Parmesan pain Perdu with Homemade Tomato Jam AAAaaaaaa so good and so easy to make!!

Writer's Block: Word for Word
The only song I know by heart is Yello's "Oh yeah". In fact, it's the only song I've ever heard. I was raised in a Skinner Box and three times a day, with meals, my captors play "Oh Yeah". I am also rewarded with "Oh Yeah" if I complete a task in a satisfactory fashion. I am so alone, but so enthusiastic. Oh Yeah.
